I specialize in working and training 2-5 year olds. At the end of the training, colt will be able to: walk, trot, lope, pick up correct leads, stop solidly, back softly, pivot, sidepass, open and close gates, move smoothly at all speeds, move off leg pressure, be aware of the rider and complete trail obstacles smoothly and comfortably. They will also have ground manners, trailer loading and any farrier training needed. Only two horses are kept at any time so I can focus with your horse.
The very beginning of training/riding lay the foundation for the horses entire riding/working career. I work hard to make that foundation solid and positive by teaching the horse to search for the right response and to think on his own.
All horses are started in a round pen. This is where they will learn to face up and watch me, carry a saddle and will have their first 2 or 3 rides before moving out into a roping pen. When they become comfortable, the remaining time is split between the arena and applying the horses skills and building confidence in the real world. Horses are ridden out on a ranch to experience ranch riding and trails as well as a man made obstacle course for additional training. The horses learn to think and to be confident as they use fundamental skills to work and complete tasks. Horses are also subject to be taken to local shows and/or SHOT (Stock Horse of Texas) shows.
I accept yearlings throughout the year. Your horse will be worked 5 to 6 days a week for 30 days. They will be taught to load in a trailer, tolerate clippers, be saddled, have thier feet handled, lead correctly and be aware of your personal space. This is a great way to get a young horse off to the right start and make his training as a 2 year old go more smoothly. Contact me for availability!
